Because I have been using the free version of AVG's Anti-Virus software for a number of years already, I had a high degree of confidence that this paid version of the company's software would be a good fit for me. And it is.

The installation process took a few minutes longer than I expected it to take but I encountered no errors or other problems during the installation and I was up and running relatively quickly. Since I was already familiar with the AVG pop-up screen from which the system is driven, I immediately felt very comfortable with this paid version and performed my first system scan almost immediately - in my particular case, it took just over three hours to scan all the drives on my system. Regularly scheduled scans are easy to set-up and edit but, because I prefer running the scans at my convenience rather than at the same time each day, I use the menu box to decide when the scans and special updates will run.

This paid version is more robust than the free version I am more familiar with and I do sense a slight slowdown in system performance - but not nearly the irritating loss of system speed I experienced when using the paid versions of two other virus protection packages I've used in the past, so I am happy to trade a slight loss of speed for the security offered.

The two-year license that comes with this version of AGV Anti-Virus (Version 8.5) is a relative bargain and gives the user access to AVG's 24-7 support website for those rare occasions that require special expertise. For the period of the license, AVG also provides free automatic updates (daily) and version upgrades. I admit, though, that I mistakenly believed that the "version upgrade" would allow me to upgrade from Version 8.5 to the new Version 9.0 and that does not seem to be the case.

Overall, I think that AVG is offering a superior product at a reasonable cost and I recommend it over what some of the bigger name anti-virus companies offer - mainly due to how slow those other products run, so slow, in fact, that I would not consider them to be "in the background."

this product was created to deter viruses and spyware from penetrating your computer. it will not protect against STD's or Aids. if you should become pregnant, experience frequent urinating, or you find you have a complusion to gamble while using this product you should consult your doctor right away.
It is not for people with hypertension or chronic stank butt as it will only enhance these symptoms. People who used this for periods of 6mths or more have shown signs of euphoria, depression, bladder infections, constipation, diahreah, funk lip and severe funk lip.

AVG isn't a bad product, but it's not competitive with the latest from Norton. I've used AVG in the past and installed this to see, and it's OK. I haven't had a problem on computers on which I've used it, but I'm also very careful about what I do on the web.

I would urge you to consider Norton Internet Security 2010. Norton used to be a wretched product: It didn't matter if it worked, as it took over the machine. But with IS 2009 it completely changed. It's very effective and 2010 is even better. What's so nice is that you'll rarely notice it's even active, as they've redone the product to do most of its work when the machine is idle.

Further, there's not even much of a price differential. You can find the 3-PC version of Norton IS 2010for $30. Granted that's only 1 year, but many people have more than 1 PC.

If I've never had a problem, then why am I pushing Norton rather than AVG? Because those sites that go to a good deal of effort to determine how effective a product is rate Norton very well and AVG not so much so.

At least do a bit of research.
